Lansing State Journal: "Putnam: Grateful mom coordinates free rides for dozens of sick kids"

“LANSING – Pam Miklavcic recalls the terror she felt on Christmas Eve 1999 when her toddler son’s fever couldn’t be brought under control. The family was out of state for the holidays and came straight home.“I called the doctor. I remember saying I am more scared than I ever remember being and I don’t know why,” she recalled. The terror was justified. Peter, 3, had leukemia and was gravely ill. Pam and her husband, Milan, now an associate professor of math at Michigan State University, also had a 1-year-old son and another baby on the way. More than three years of chemotherapy followed. Peter survived. He’s now 20, healthy, and studying mechanical engineering at the University of Rochester in New York. The experience changed Miklavcic, a Haslett mother of four with a doctorate in agricultural economics. Instead of working on microenterprise projects in Africa or surveying migrant workers in the United States, she has dedicated her career to helping other families with sick kids.” Read the full article here.

Lansing State Journal: "Nonprofit Spotlight: The Davies Project"

The Davies Project provides non-medical support to families in greater Lansing with seriously ill or chronically ill children. Our up-and-coming organization provides round-trip rides to local medical appointments for families that have difficulty accessing transportation. We plan to provide many types of additional support in the future. Our current team of 25 volunteer drivers (highly screened and trained) provides the rides using their own vehicles. We began this work in December 2014 and have had 56 children and their families reach out to us for help. In 2015, our first full year, we provided a total of 360 rides. Read the full article here.
